In his book ‘Free PR,’ Cameron Herold tells this story about getting his company, 1-800-GOT-JUNK, on Oprah:
“When 1-800-GOT-JUNK was on Oprah, the phone rang like crazy daily. Then it was over. We weren’t on Oprah anymore. Cameron’s ability to tell the Oprah story over the ensuing thirteen years ultimately has mattered the most. This is what leveraging is all about. Long after the initial thrill or an article has passed, you can use it to your advantage through marketing, sales, and subsequent PR hits. The fact that Cameron can tell every journalist he speaks to that his company was on Oprah is more valuable than the business that came in because he was on the show.”
